Flavored Noodles Linked to More than 100 Salmonella Infections in Europe
Officials said 106 people, mostly children and young adults, were infected after microbiological evidence linked the outbreak strain to instant noodle products.
European food safety and health officials reported an outbreak involving 106 confirmed cases across 14 countries, with the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control and EFSA identifying flavored-noodle products as the source.
Authorities linked cases to the salmonella Stanley strain connected to a producer in Ukraine, with infections first reported in November.
Reeva Foods cited an "alleged detection" of the bacteria in a batch of instant noodles distributed in the Baltic market; produced by Euro Food Service, a Ukrainian manufacturer, the specific items included chicken-flavored varieties.
At least 49 people required hospital treatment due to the infections; in response, Reeva Foods launched an internal probe and withdrew the affected batches while cooperating with authorities.
Symptoms of the poisoning include fever, vomiting, and stomach cramps, though most individuals recover within a week as officials conduct further investigation to contain the ongoing outbreak.
