DWTS' Val Chmerkovskiy Receives One-Week Suspension After Will Smith Oscars Slap Comment
- On Saturday, October 17, BBC Studios announced that pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy will miss next week's Dancing With the Stars episode following an inappropriate social media post directed at judge Carrie Ann Inaba.
- Tensions arose during the October 13 Super Bowl Night episode after Inaba critiqued a lift in a routine by Chmerkovskiy's wife, Jenna Johnson, prompting him to post a comment referencing Will Smith's 2022 Oscars slap.
- Chmerkovskiy issued a public apology on Thursday, stating he "made a poor decision" and reached out to Inaba directly, while she had previously defended her critique by reading the official definition of a lift to Johnson.
- His celebrity partner, Jenna Dewan, will continue competing in Season 35, performing a Viennese waltz on the October 20 Dedication Night episode alongside temporary partner Alan Bersten.
- BBC Studios emphasized that the "well-being of everyone who works on" the show is "non-negotiable," noting the post did not "reflect the values or standards expected" of those connected to the program.
