The Criminal Court of the Algiers Judicial Council sentenced nine accused in cases of trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to death in the first such sentence, based on the amended Algerian anti-drug legislation. The Algiers Judicial Council stated in a statement that the sentences included three accused in the presence of six others in absentia, in cases involving trafficking in 113 kilograms of cocaine.
