Drone hits Yandex data centre, in first such attack on Russia
The strike caused a fire and suspended operations at Yandex’s largest data center, with outage monitors reporting more than 1,300 disruption complaints.
- A major Yandex data center in Ryazan Oblast was reportedly damaged in an overnight drone attack, located on the grounds of the Sasta machine-tool plant, a manufacturer of CNC equipment.
- Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov previously described the Sasovo complex as a high-tech facility housing tens of thousands of servers supporting Russian defense industry operations and precision manufacturing.
- Yandex Cloud acknowledged an "incident" and power-supply problems in its "ru-central1-b availability zone", with disruptions beginning at 1:31 a.m. and prompting the company to advise customers to move services.
- The Sasta plant has been under sanctions since 2024 for its role in the Russian defense sector, though it remains unclear whether the factory, data center, or both were the intended targets.
- Neither regional authorities nor Ukraine's military had publicly confirmed the strike, while Public outage monitors showed no evidence of widespread disruptions across Yandex's main consumer services.
