Drivers Beware: Police Warn About Ghosts on B.C. Roads
BC Highway Patrol says ghost cruisers led to two excessive-speed impounds and fines of $483 each near Prince George.
Ahead of Halloween, the BC Highway Patrol is warning drivers about 'ghost cruisers'—unmarked, fully functional police vehicles deployed on Highway 97 near Prince George to enforce safe driving.
On Oct. 1, a 36-year-old Harrison Mills man was stopped on Highway 97 North driving 121 km/h in a 50 zone within a construction area, prompting the enforcement action.
Caught at 123 km/h near Pollard Road on Oct. 2, a 22-year-old Surrey man driving a Honda SUV was a Novice driver already serving a three-month driving prohibition.
Both drivers received excessive speed tickets of $483 each, plus towing fees and seven-day impounds, with total costs including insurance premiums reaching at least $2,300.
Additionally, the Surrey man received a $109 fine for a Fail to display an 'N' ticket, while BCHP emphasizes slowing down protects highway maintenance workers in hazardous conditions.
