Rays Ace Drew Rasmussen to Start World Series Game 5 on Short Rest Against Milwaukee
Rasmussen threw 89 pitches in Game 2 and will start again as Tampa Bay tries to extend the series with seven pitchers already used Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen will start Game 5 of the World Series on three days' rest, tasked with staving off elimination against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Rays trail by 3 games to 1 in the best-of-seven series after staying alive with a 4 to 3 victory Tuesday, deploying 7 pitchers to keep their season alive.
Rasmussen, a two-time All-Star, went 16-5 with a 2.67 ERA in the regular season and previously threw 89 pitches over 3 2/3 innings in Game 2 last Saturday.
The Brewers will send hard-throwing right-hander Jacob Misiorowski to the mound, seeking to clinch their first World Series title in franchise history after wasting a 12th-inning lead Tuesday.
If the Rays win Wednesday, Games 6 and 7 will be played in Milwaukee. Rasmussen was acquired from the Brewers in 2021 for infielder Willy Adames.
With the 3-1 series in favor of Milwaukee, Tampa Bay risks his ace opener with only three days of rest before the jewel of Jacob Misiorowski pitching in search of forcing the sixth game.
