Indices gain in August

US stocks fell on Monday after hostilities between the US and Iran flared up for the first time in a month, although major stock indexes remained on track to finish August with overall gains. The S&P 500 fell 0.33% to 7,686.14, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.12% to 26,370.89. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 374.09 points, or 0.70%, to 53,185.90.
