It would have been better, in the Secretary of State's opinion, if Trump had upheld European leaders' demand to first negotiate a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia and then peace, rather than holding peace talks "under a hail of bombs and a Russian killing machine." She makes no comment on the red carpet that welcomed Putin at the summit in Alaska yesterday, as long as the performance results in "a just and lasting peace in Europe."
