HCSO: Summer Wells' Father, Don Wells, Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance, and Hawkins County officials said Wells was charged with domestic assault.
Don Wells, the father of missing child Summer Wells, was arrested on Monday on a domestic assault charge and is being held in the Hawkins County Jail, according to the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Ben Hill Road in Rogersville late Monday, finding Wells with scratches on his sternum and abdomen; his wife, Candus Bly Wells, was found inside with visible injuries and alleged he had assaulted her.
This is not Wells' first legal trouble; he previously served 180 days in jail after pleading guilty to DUI in February 2022. Court records also show his wife had sought a protection order against him before Summer's disappearance.
Authorities have not established any connection between the latest arrest and Summer's disappearance, which remains an active investigation. Legal proceedings regarding the domestic assault charge are currently pending.
In June, TBI Director David Rausch said investigators have made progress but "there are still many unanswered questions" in the five-year-old case. The search for Summer, who was 5 years old when she vanished, continues.
