Dodgers Post Argues Shohei Ohtani’s Season-Ending Injury, ‘He’s Done’
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Shohei Ohtani is unlikely to pitch again this season. With three weeks remaining in the regular season, Roberts downplayed prospects of the two-way star returning to the mound.
Injuries to his left knee, right biceps, and neck derailed Ohtani's anticipated return as a full-time two-way player. The Japanese star has battled persistent inflammation and soreness, with setbacks occurring after bullpen throwing sessions.
Ohtani has not pitched in a game since July 3, and he missed four consecutive games this week due to his physical condition. His batting form has slumped in recent weeks as he attempted to return as a pitcher.
When asked if Ohtani might pitch as an opener, Roberts responded: "I think that's unlikely." He earlier stated, "Obviously if you're looking at the calendar, how much he's thrown in the last week, I think we can all do the math."
Despite the pitching setback, Roberts expressed hope that Ohtani could return to the Dodgers' batting lineup as soon as Monday. The star had targeted the Young Award this season, marking a difficult shift for the two-time World Series champion.
