Dodge Announces Its Return to the NASCAR Cup Series Beginning at the Daytona 500
Kaulig Racing will field a two-car Dodge Charger team as the brand becomes NASCAR Cup Series’ fourth manufacturer, with AJ Allmendinger and Ty Dillon expected to drive.
On Monday, the Stellantis-owned Dodge brand announced its return to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2027 at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, with Kaulig Racing fielding a two-car team at the Daytona 500.
Dodge bypassed the typical two-year development timeline by partnering with Earnhardt Childress Racing to build Dodge-spec powerplants alongside regular Chevrolet operations, enabling competition with Ford and Toyota.
Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis aims to expand the NASCAR fan base from 20 million to 80 or 100 million, while drivers AJ Allmendinger and Ty Dillon are expected to fill the two team seats.
NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell called the return a "significant milestone," while The Athletic reported that Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota approved the partnership, believing a fourth manufacturer strengthens series health.
Dodge previously raced through 2012, winning the Cup title with Brad Keselowski and Penske Racing, then re-entered the NASCAR Truck Series with Ram in 2026 before this premier-series return.
