Digital Realty Strengthens Nairobi as East Africa Digital Gateway with New Data Center
The new facility expands capacity and interconnection options for cloud providers and enterprises as East Africa’s demand for digital services grows, Digital Realty said.
- On Monday, September 7, 2026, Digital Realty announced the opening of the 6.4-megawatt Nairobi Two Data Center, expanding its campus in Kenya to bolster East Africa's digital infrastructure.
- This expansion coincides with iColo's transition to the Digital Realty brand in Kenya and Mozambique, strengthening the company's presence as demand for digital services surges across East Africa.
- Customers gain access to more than 100 networks, two internet exchange points, and a satellite teleport, creating a dense ecosystem for cross-border connectivity and data sovereignty strategies.
- Marcel Louw, Managing Director of Africa, said the facility strengthens Nairobi's position as a gateway by providing infrastructure that is "local, connected and globally scalable" for hybrid IT solutions.
- Wanja Muriithi, Country General Manager for Kenya, noted that "combining our strong local ecosystem in Nairobi with Digital Realty" enables customers to grow while connecting with broader global communities.
