Virginia Men's Tennis Beats Texas to Win Seventh National Championship
Dylan Dietrich rallied in three sets to clinch Virginia’s first men’s tennis national title since 2023.
On Sunday in Athens, Ga., fourth-seeded Virginia defeated No. 2 seed Texas 4-3 to capture the program's seventh NCAA men's tennis championship.
This victory marks Virginia's first national title since winning back-to-back championships in 2022-23, following a 4-1 win over the Longhorns in Austin on January 18.
To force the decisive match, Jangjun Kim defeated Sebastian Eriksson 6-1, 7-6 to tie the score 3-3, while Keegan Rice, Stiles Brockett, and Oliver Ojakaar secured earlier singles victories.
Despite the loss, the Longhorns maintain strong competitive standing, having advanced to four straight Final Fours and winning their only national title in 2019.
Top-Ranked Dylan Dietrich clinched the championship by rallying for a three-set victory over Sebastian Gorzny, posting a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 result to seal the Cavaliers' win.
