‘Bittersweet’: Gradey Dick Facing Raptors for First Since Blockbuster Trade
Gradey Dick faced his former team following a multi-asset trade, as Clippers coach Tyronn Lue expects the forward to increase his three-point shooting accuracy to 38 percent, officials said.
On Saturday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Gradey Dick played his first pre-season game against the Toronto Raptors, the team that drafted him 13th overall in 2023, calling the matchup "bittersweet."
The trade that sent Dick, Brandon Ingram, and draft picks to the Los Angeles Clippers for Kawhi Leonard faced complications while the NBA investigated a $28 million endorsement contract involving Leonard for potential salary cap circumvention.
Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue expects the 22-year-old forward to improve his three-point consistency; Dick's percentage dipped to 30 per cent in his final Toronto season before rising to 36 per cent in his first year with Los Angeles.
Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic texted with Dick on Friday, telling him, "He's one of the most talented players in his draft class" and needs "a consistent opportunity" to shine.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Leonard is not expected to play in the short-term as he works back to fitness, despite averaging 27.9 points in 65 games for the Clippers last season.
