DNC launches seven-figure voter registration initiative ahead of midterms
The Democratic National Committee plans a multi-million dollar effort to register young and non-college-educated voters with a focus on voters of color, aiming to strengthen turnout in midterms.
- On Tuesday, the Democratic National Committee announced When We Count, a seven-figure program starting in Arizona and Nevada with at least $2 million for organizer training.
- After years of falling registration, Democrats lost more than 60,000 Nevada voters since 2021 while Republicans gained 20,000, and independents reached 45 percent, Gallup said.
- A centerpiece of the program is a part-time, paid fellowship with more than one hundred fellows receiving weekly training and participating in four National Voter Registration Weeks of Action, the DNC said.
- If successful, the investments will provide a foundation beyond the fall midterms, and Martin said, `we need all hands on deck, not just the outside groups,` as Democrats seek to win back control of Congress.
- Party leaders say the shift will adopt Republican National Committee tactics, using interstate competitions throughout the year and recruiting organizers from diverse backgrounds to engage young people, voters of color, and non-college-educated Americans.
