Elly De La Cruz Shines at Plate, in Field as Reds Beat Rockies
Elly De La Cruz drove in four runs and Chase Burns reached 100 strikeouts faster than any Reds pitcher as Cincinnati won 7-2.
On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-2 at Great American Ball Park, with shortstop Elly De La Cruz homering and driving in four runs and pitcher Chase Burns reaching 100 strikeouts.
Burns excelled on the mound, matching his season high with nine strikeouts over six innings while throwing 97 pitches, with 64 for strikes, to reach the 100-strikeout milestone in 72 1/3 innings.
De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored, hitting his team-leading 10th home run in the eighth inning while drawing recent defensive comparisons to Omar Vizquel.
Relievers Graham Ashcraft, Tony Santillan, and Brock Burke closed the game with three shutout innings, securing Cincinnati's 19th win and maintaining first place in the National League Central at 19-10.
The series continues Wednesday night at Great American Ball Park, with Reds LHP Brandon Williamson scheduled to start against Rockies RHP Tomoyuki Sugano .
