Historic Big Sur businesses close again as 2 wildfires expand, force new evacuations
"A punch in the gut because this is our busiest month of the year," said one of the owners of a Big Sur landmark restaurant, forced to close again just a week after reopening as the Timber Fire and now the Plaskett Fire continue to rage.
Wildfires are spreading along the scenic Big Sur coast in California. Local authorities briefly closed part of the coastal and tourist trail as firefighters raced to contain the flames from advancing through the area's narrow canyons and valleys.
Firefighters with the backing of water-throwing aircraft were fighting a small forest fire on Thursday that caused further evacuations along the remote coast of Big Sur, California, where a much larger conflagration has been burning for almost three weeks.
