Mum and Dad Jailed After Letting Their Daughter Starve to Death
Bernita and Alan Davies admitted neglecting their vulnerable daughter Steffie, who died from sepsis and severe undernourishment at age 32, court heard.
On Thursday, March 19, Mold Crown Court sentenced Bernita and Alan Davies to eight years in prison for causing their daughter Steffie Davies' death through "extreme neglect."
Paramedics discovered the 32-year-old "almost skeletal" in a "sodden" bed at the family home in May 2023, with a pathologist confirming she died from sepsis caused by infected pressure ulcers and low body weight.
While Steffie lay starving in the next room, Mrs. Justice Stacey noted the parents continued working and eating from a "clean and well stocked" fridge-freezer, showing complete indifference to her suffering.
In court, Steffie's sister stated the talented animal care student was "left to fade into insignificance," expressing "sadness at the loss" and anger that proper support could have enabled her to thrive.
Wrexham Council will now liaise with the North Wales Safeguarding Board to determine if the case meets the threshold for an official review into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
