Danone’s £860m Takeover of Huel Cleared by UK Watchdog
The Competition and Markets Authority cleared the deal after a preliminary inquiry, and Huel reported 2026 UK sales up 26.5% to £139.3 million.
The Competition and Markets Authority cleared Danone's acquisition of British protein maker Huel on Thursday, following a preliminary inquiry into potential competition concerns.
Danone agreed to acquire the Hertfordshire-based brand in March to strengthen its functional nutrition portfolio, timing the deal for the "Protein 2.0" era amid rising weight loss drug usage.
Huel reached £254 million in revenue during its 10th year and reportedly sold for around £860 million, with UK sales climbing 26.5% to £139.3 million across more than 17,000 stores.
Backing from British actor Idris Elba, TV broadcaster Jonathan Ross, and Dragons' Den star Steven Bartlett supported the company, which serves customers "nutritionally complete" powders and shakes since 2015.
The French firm aims to leverage its global reach to accelerate Huel's international expansion, complementing European brands like Activia, Actimel, Evian, and Volvic to drive innovation within the nutrition sector.
The United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) approved the proposed acquisition of Huel by Danone, a business valued at $1.2 billion. Exclusive material for subscribers. To have full access, access the link of the material and register.
