More Baby Formula Products Recalled over Toxin Fears
Danone recalled several hundred lots of infant formula across Europe after toxin limits were lowered by the European Food Safety Authority, with symptoms reported in 36 UK cases.
- On February 6, 2026, Danone expanded its recall of infant formula to Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Switzerland, extending the Food Standards Agency's January 23 notice.
- The contaminated ingredient, ARA, was traced to a third‑party supplier, and the European Food Safety Authority on Monday drastically reduced allowed cereulide levels, Danone said the recall follows updated recommendations.
- Several hundred lots are affected, including more than 120 Aptamil and Milumil lots in Austria and Germany and 119 Gallia and Bledilait lots in France, with 15 products officially recalled by Danone.
- Health agencies earlier this week recorded 36 clinical reports of babies with symptoms consistent with toxin poisoning, and the FSA urged parents to check, return affected packs to retail stores, and contact their GP or NHS 111 if concerned.
- The contamination traced to a shared third-party supplier has sparked a global response, with Danone and Nestle confirming they no longer use the supplier and recalls affecting more than 60 countries since December.
