Jayden Daniels Sends LSU Cease-and-Desist Letter on Decision to Give No. 5 Jersey to Current Player

On Aug. 5, former Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels issued a cease-and-desist letter to LSU Athletic Director Verge Ausberry over his name, image and likeness, protesting the university's decision to assign his number 5 to cornerback Pickett.
Lane Kiffin confirmed Aug. 5 that Pickett was promised the number during recruitment, stating, "DJ is in 5, and that was a situation that was promised to him."
Expressing disappointment, Daniels' statement said seeing his number reassigned is "incredibly disappointing and feels like a failure to honor the significance of what Jayden accomplished at LSU."
Before his firing in October, Brian Kelly confirmed the promise to Pickett but stated he "wasn't prepared to do it until we got a full commitment from another Heisman winner."
Washington Commanders quarterback Daniels continues training camp in Ashburn, while reports indicate he feels treated differently than former Heisman-winning quarterback Joe Burrow, who also won a Heisman with LSU.
