Dan Green Wins Republican Nomination for U.S. House in Florida's 9th Congressional District
The race was decided by 589 votes in a seven-candidate field, and Green will face Democrat Darren Soto in November, the Associated Press said.
On Thursday, the Associated Press projected Navy veteran Dan Green won the Republican primary in Florida's 9th Congressional District, securing 14,740 votes to defeat six other candidates in a crowded field.
Republican-Led state legislators redrew the 9th District in May, doubling its size and eliminating seats previously held by Democrats, a move critics allege violates constitutional prohibitions on partisan gerrymandering.
Green will face incumbent Democrat Darren Soto on November 3, pledging to "safeguard our constitutional government" while criticizing gridlock in Washington, D.C. as a barrier to prosperity.
National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson praised Green as a candidate with "what it takes to deliver for the Sunshine State" in the upcoming midterm elections.
The Florida Supreme Court denied a request to halt use of the new boundaries, leaving the redrawn map in place as Republicans seek to expand their House majority in 2026.
