Cubs' Cade Horton placed on 15-day IL, set for tests after leaving 2nd start with forearm discomfort

On Sunday, the Cubs placed starting pitcher Cade Horton on the 15-day injured list with a strained forearm, two days after he felt discomfort during his second outing of 2026.
During Friday's game against Cleveland, Horton exited after throwing a 93.8 mph fastball to Naylor; tightness progressed from his wrist into his forearm.
Manager Craig Counsell confirmed Horton will see team doctors on Monday for evaluation. The 24-year-old, who posted a 2.67 ERA as a rookie last season, was replaced by Colin Rea.
To address the roster vacancy, the Cubs recalled left-hander Riley Martin from Triple-A Iowa. Right-hander Ethan Roberts was also recalled as the 27th man for the Easter doubleheader.
Selected in the 2021 draft from Quincy University, Martin makes his first appearance for Chicago. Manager Counsell praised the pitcher's development from Division ball to the majors.
