CSL Unveils Exclusive Alentis Deal to Advance Rare Disease Treatments
CSL will fund Phase 2 and 3 trials and share global profits 55% to 45% with Alentis.
On Sunday, CSL and Alentis Therapeutics announced an exclusive global collaboration to co-develop lixudebart, an investigational treatment for rare kidney and liver diseases, in a deal valued at up to $1.6 billion.
Designed to target claudin-1, lixudebart is an investigational monoclonal antibody that aims to slow inflammation and fibrosis, key drivers of organ damage in kidney and liver diseases.
Under the partnership, CSL will provide an initial $355 million payment to Alentis and fully fund Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials, with Alentis eligible for up to $1.2 billion in commercial milestone payments.
Alentis Chief Executive Officer Mark Pruzanski stated the partnership "dramatically accelerates" lixudebart development, while global profits will be shared 55 per cent to CSL and 45 per cent to Alentis once commercialized.
Beyond initial indications, CSL plans to advance lixudebart for focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis , strengthening its nephrology portfolio with expanded clinical trials.
