Crayola craft toy recalled over asbestos contamination fears
Hunter Price International Limited said the sand in the kit may contain asbestos, and shoppers are told to stop using it and seek a refund.
- On Friday, the Office for Product Safety and Standards recalled the Crayola Discovery Craft Box and Crayola Touchy Feely Craft Box after sand in the kits was found potentially contaminated with asbestos.
- Importer Hunter Price International Limited initiated the recall because the sand may contain a small quantity of asbestos, a banned substance that poses health risks even at minimal exposure levels.
- Retailers including Argos, Asda, Sainsbury's, and The Works sold the items, described as a "colourful box containing various craft items." An urgent "stop using" warning has been issued.
- The OPSS advises owners to "stop using the product immediately" and keep it away from children; those who used the sand should clean sites with wet cloths to avoid generating dust.
- More than 30 toys have been recalled across the UK this year over fears of asbestos contamination, reflecting a significant escalation in product safety actions within the toy industry.
