Crown Prosecution Service Decision Not to Charge Letby over Six More Babies Upheld
An independent prosecutor upheld the no-charge decision after reviewing six attempted murder allegations against Lucy Letby, the CPS said.
The Crown Prosecution Service upheld its January decision not to bring further criminal charges against Lucy Letby regarding six infants, following an extensive review under the Victims' Right to Review scheme.
Six families requested the review after Cheshire Constabulary passed evidence regarding deaths and non-fatal collapses at Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women's Hospital during Letby's employment.
An independent prosecutor conducted an "extensive" review but concluded the "evidential test was not met" for six reconsidered attempted murder offences, Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS's special crime division, confirmed.
The CPS has written to involved families to offer meetings, while Letby, 36, from Hereford, remains in prison serving 15 whole-life orders for previous convictions.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Cases Review Commission is examining claims regarding medical care, and a public inquiry led by Lady Justice Thirlwall is due to publish findings later this year.
