CPABC: Cariboo Employment Falls Amid Trade Challenges

Employment fell 4.5% due to full-time job losses in education and public administration, while part-time work rose slightly and construction jobs increased, CPABC reported.

  • In late 2025, CPABC reported Cariboo employment fell 4.5 per cent to 78,800 in November 2025, driven by declining full-time work.
  • Services-Sector figures show services sector employment totalled 58,000, 5,700 fewer than November 2024, with educational services and public administration seeing the largest cuts.
  • The employment rate fell to 55.6 per cent, and the unemployment rate was 8.3 per cent in November 2025, with 82,000 residents working, Naphtali noted.
  • CPABC urged support for affected industries and workers as vacancies and labour force participation declined, reflecting softer conditions for workers and businesses in the Cariboo.
  • As CPABC noted, Naphtali concluded U.S. trade action worsened forestry challenges, including layoffs in Cariboo, while construction gains of 2,400 reflect softer conditions.
