Cowichan church celebrating 160 years with event Oct. 24
The evening event will include dinner, live music and parishioner stories, with fewer than 20 tickets left, organizers said.
The Anglican Church of St. Peter Quamichan will host an evening celebration titled "Past, Present, and Future" on Oct. 24, marking 160 years in the community. Tickets cost $50, with under 20 remaining.
St. Peter Quamichan holds the distinction of being the oldest parish still operating on its original site in the Cowichan Valley. Parishioners erected their first log structure, measuring 20 by 30 feet, in 1867.
Early settlers like Prevost, Duncan, Kenneth, and James rest in the cemetery, which also houses the brother of Dracula author Bram Stoker. Grounds and cemetery attract 50 to 100 visitors daily.
Attendees will enjoy a dinner catered by The Hungry Bubba, live music, and stories from parishioners throughout the evening. Full displays will showcase the church's storied history.
Incumbent parish priest Theo Robinson leads the church's mission to reconcile with Indigenous neighbors and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. The church invites all of God's children into its midst.
