A German court has blocked oil extraction from Germany's largest oil field. For decades, the Mittelplate platform extracted oil from the eastern part of the Wadden Sea. A judge ruled that this must stop until further notice due to the lack of a mandatory environmental impact analysis. German environmentalists are calling it a historic ruling.
The Schleswig-Holstein Administrative Court orders the immediate stop of oil production in the Wadden Sea: the operation is therefore illegal due to a lack of FFH assessment.
