Consumers have already had greater legal backing since 31 July to repair certain devices even when they have passed the warranty period.This measure is part of Directive (EU) 2024/1799 of the European Parliament and of the Council — also known as the 'right to repair' — and seeks to extend the service life of appliances to reduce electronic waste, while facilitating access to repairs in the face of replacement by new ones.
