Colts Sign Former Chiefs Super Bowl Champion WR After Firing GM Chris Ballard
The Colts added veteran help after a 2-4 start, bringing in a three-time Super Bowl champion and a 17-year punter to bolster depth.
On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts signed wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. and punter Thomas Morstead to their practice squad, releasing rookie Eli Pancol to accommodate the roster additions.
Hardman, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, brings 178 career catches for 2,302 yards and 16 touchdowns across 82 regular-season games to Indianapolis.
Hardman famously caught the game-winning touchdown in a Super Bowl, while Morstead joins after punting 44 times for a 43.6-yard average in 17 games with the San Francisco 49ers last season.
With Alec Pierce on injured reserve, the Colts hosted former Eagles wideout Ainias Smith earlier this week but chose Hardman after a failed Darius Slayton experiment.
Following the firing of general manager Chris Ballard, the 2-4 Colts face an undefeated Minnesota Vikings squad this Sunday in a critical stretch of their season.
