Colorado's Deion Sanders weighs in on wagering as gambling scandal ripples through college football
Sanders said gambling threatens college football integrity and urged a salary cap, age limit and expanded playoff to address uneven NIL spending.
Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby won a court order early last week restoring his eligibility after an NCAA ban for betting on sports, prompting Colorado coach Deion Sanders to call for a hard pass on wagering in college football.
Sanders contends the game is positioned differently as money now dominates, with teams spending vastly different amounts. He advocates for structural reforms including age limits and expanding the College Football Playoff to 24 teams.
To even the NIL playing field, Sanders suggests a salary cap and hiring a retired coach as commissioner like Nick Saban. He noted teams spending $40 million play against teams spending $10 million.
Partnering with Depend for Men's Health Month, Sanders is encouraging regular checkups through a program titled Depend Wake Up Calls, which delivers video messages through June following his bladder cancer treatment.
The Buffaloes return with quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter after a 3-9 season. Colorado will face Big rival Texas Tech on Oct. 3 as part of homecoming festivities.
