Sportradar says 128 conference games have been decided by eight points or fewer, the most through Week 8 since at least 1973.
According to Sportradar, the average point differential in college football conference games is 13.9 points, marking the closest margin since at least 1973.
Driving this trend, 128 conference games were decided by eight or fewer points this season through Week 8, the most since at least 1973, with 30 one-score contests last week across the Bowl Subdivision.
Parity is visible in the conference breakdown: 51% of games in the ACC and 50% in the Big Ten were decided by one score, while the SEC saw 44% and the Big 12 had 39%.
Across the Power Four, 69 one-score conference games have been played this season, creating a highly competitive atmosphere as teams navigate the unpredictable schedule.
Following their victory over Texas Tech last Saturday, Cincinnati turns its attention to BYU next week as the Bearcats aim to maintain momentum in this competitive landscape.
