Co-worker throws hot oil on California McDonald's employee, 20-year-old badly burned
Jacob Smith suffered second-degree burns over 22% of his body, and police said the suspect was later arrested and charged.
On Saturday, 23-year-old Jalani Bluett allegedly threw hot oil on shift manager Jacob Smith, 20, at a Northern California McDonald's in Yuba City, leaving Smith with second-degree burns over 22% of his body.
Bluett appeared in Sutter County Court yesterday for arraignment on charges including assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem, and he is currently being held in Sutter County Jail without bail.
Investigators arrested Bluett shortly after midnight on June 1 following a missing person report; the Sutter County Sheriff acknowledged he has an undisclosed disability and was considered at risk.
Amber Smith described her son as a positive person who would "give anything to anybody," and she launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover his medical bills during recovery.
Police have not determined a motive for the attack, though the victim remained ambulatory and communicative despite obvious burn marks on his upper torso and face area.
