Hamburg's citizenship has decided to build the new opera in Hafencity. The spectacular building is to be built on the Baakenhöft, financed mainly by the foundation of the billionaire Klaus-Michael Kühne. The house could be ready in 2034.
Hamburg's parliament opened the way for the new opera house in Hafencity on Wednesday. Almost all parties had already spoken out for the project in advance.

The representatives of SPD, Greens, CDU and AfD voted in favour of a corresponding contract between the city and the Kühne Foundation. Only the left-wing faction voted against.
