CSK Move on From Hussey After Eight Years as IPL 2027 Revamp Gathers Pace
The franchise is overhauling its backroom staff after finishing 5th, 10th and 8th in the last three IPL seasons, officials said.
On Monday, the Chennai Super Kings bid farewell to batting coach Michael Hussey, ending his eight-year tenure ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season and impending auction.
Following their 2023 IPL title victory, the five-time champions experienced a performance slump, finishing 5th in 2024, 10th in 2025, and 8th in 2026, prompting the major backroom overhaul.
The Super Kings also officially parted ways with bowling coach Eric Simons, assistant coach Rajiv Kumar, and fielding coach James Foster, extending "sincere gratitude for your dedicated service and contributions."
Head coach Stephen Fleming departed after a 17-year tenure to manage England's Test team, with former India pacer Zaheer Khan appointed as his replacement.
Former India pacer Mohit Sharma joins the coaching unit to replace Simons, while Hussey declined an offer from Fleming to join the England setup ahead of the 2027 campaign.
Chennai Super Kings have made a major shake-up in their coaching staff ahead of the new IPL season. Long-time team members Mike Hussey and Stephen Fleming have stepped down. CSK has appointed a new coaching team comprising Zaheer Khan and Mohit Sharma.
