Cheese bread sold at Costco, Walmart recalled over salmonella concerns
Champion Foods said routine testing was negative, but it recalled the bread out of caution after a milk powder supplier linked to salmonella.
On Friday, Champion Foods LLC issued a voluntary recall of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread sold in single boxes and two-packs due to potential salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
California Dairies Inc. supplied contaminated dry milk powder to a third-party manufacturer that produces the seasoning blend used in the pizza bread's cheese sauce. The recall stems from this ingredient source.
Affected products include single packs and two-packs with sell-by dates ranging from February 3, 2027, through April 21, 2027. Retailers including Walmart, Costco, and Kroger distributed the recalled bread nationwide.
Consumers should return the recalled bread to retailers for full refunds rather than consuming it. Those experiencing fever or diarrhea should consult a doctor, especially if symptoms persist over two days or become bloody.
