Charges Dropped Against Man Who Was Repeatedly Punched on Video by an Auburn PD Officer
The dismissal leaves prosecutors free to refile charges as Auburn and Renton police continue separate reviews of the arrest video.
Auburn prosecutors dismissed all pending criminal charges against Mauro Alberto Felix Valles on Thursday without prejudice, allowing the city to refile charges as the investigation continues.
The Oct. 28 incident began when Auburn Police Officer Andrew Bryant responded to reports of a man running in traffic on Auburn Way North. Bryant deployed a Taser and punched Felix Valles over 20 times during the subsequent struggle.
Attorney Evan Oshan, representing Felix Valles, alleges his client suffered a mild traumatic brain injury during the encounter. Oshan released video footage calling Bryant's actions "extreme, excessive force" and demanding his resignation.
Officer Bryant remains on administrative leave while the Renton Police Department conducts an independent criminal review. Auburn has also launched an internal investigation to assess compliance with department force policies.
Oshan filed complaints with the Washington State Attorney General's Office amid renewed scrutiny of Auburn police practices. State law requires officers to use the least amount of force necessary and mandates intervention against excessive force.
