Inside the EU’s bittersweet deal to update air passenger rights
A decade-long battle over air passenger rights ended this week as the European Parliament approved the first overhaul in 22 years. The deal preserves existing rights and adds new ones, but consumer groups say it falls short, while airline associations argue there are no winners.
The European Parliament has approved a draft law extending the rights of passengers travelling by plane. The new rules provide, among other things, that minors under 14 years old should automatically be placed with at least one parent, at no additional cost, but also to simplify the procedures for lodging and resolving complaints.
