Chanel Goes Sheer and Wild for Matthieu Blazy’s Spring/summer 2027 Show
The 83-look collection mixed sheer fabrics, feathers and reworked house codes, including Gabrielle Chanel’s 2.55 bag from the archives.
On Monday, Chanel artistic director Matthieu Blazy presented the Spring-Summer 2027 collection at the Grand Palais in Paris, featuring 95 illuminated geese suspended overhead as actor Nicole Kidman watched from the front row.
The collection traces the life of house founder Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, exploring her evolution from Edwardian youth to postwar success. Blazy noted the collection embodies "Gabrielle, who then became Chanel" as a means of taking flight.
Blazy introduced "smocked tweed," a malleable fabric designed for modern movement, while model Dyanira Hurbuscher carried Gabrielle Chanel's own archival 2.55 handbag throughout the collection's 83 looks.
Reciting Virginia Woolf's novel Orlando, actor Nicole Kidman provided the show's voiceover as a soundtrack of bird songs echoed through the cavernous space, merging literary history with contemporary fashion.
Enlisting French scenographer Richard Peduzzi to create the avian-themed set, Blazy continues merging Chanel's storied legacy with a youthful, forward-looking vision, using migration motifs to symbolize artistic freedom within the brand.
Chanel, accused of lacking surprises, has undergone a transformation under Matthieu Blazy. The shows are now full of joy and new innovations, as demonstrated by the closing show of Paris Fashion Week.
