Cavs Acquiring Peyton Watson and Trading Max Strus to Clippers in 4-Team Deal, AP Source Says
On Wednesday, the Denver Nuggets traded restricted free agent Peyton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a multi-team deal that sent guard Max Strus to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Cavaliers sought a wing player after LeBron James signed with Philadelphia, while Denver was unable to reach a new contract agreement with Watson.
Watson, 23, will sign a four-year, $88 million contract after averaging 14.6 points and shooting 41% from 3-point range last season, while Strus brings a $16.7 million salary.
Cleveland sent Tre Mann, a 2027 second-round pick, and cash to the Washington Wizards for Cam Whitmore, while the Nuggets acquired Julian Reese from Washington.
The Clippers now have eight guards on their roster, including three-time All-Star Darius Garland and veteran Bradley Beal, and are expected to move at least one before training camp next month.
A major NBA trade involving five different teams took place. The most notable player was Denver Nuggets winger Peyton Watson, who will continue his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
