Carson Schwesinger went from walk-on to AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year
Carson Schwesinger walked on at UCLA, was passed up in the first round of the draft, and won the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award with the Cleveland Browns in 2025.
Fifteen defensive players were selected before Schwesinger was chosen by the Browns at the start of the second round in the last NFL draft.
Schwesinger became an instant starter for the Browns, recording 156 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions in 16 games under defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Schwesinger expressed honor at being compared to players he admired and emphasized the teamwork of his defense and coaching staff.
