Panthers Fire Defensive Coordinator Ejiro Evero Following 27-19 Loss to the Packers
The Panthers changed defensive leadership after allowing 70 points in two losses, with Todd Wash taking over play-calling duties.
On Friday, the Carolina Panthers fired defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley, with head coach Dave Canales naming defensive line coach Todd Wash as interim defensive coordinator.
The coaching changes follow a 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, marking Carolina's second defeat in five days where the defense surrendered 70 total points.
Through seven games, the Panthers' defense ranks 23rd overall, allowing 349.6 yards per contest, while the unit has allowed a league-leading 12 games of 200 or more rushing yards since 2024.
Outside linebackers coach AC Carter will expand his role to oversee the defensive line, while secondary coach Renaldo Hill remains in his position overseeing defensive backs.
Interim defensive coordinator Wash brings 31 years of coaching experience, including 20 seasons in the NFL, having previously served as defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2016 through 2020.
