Peru's president, José María Balcázar, has named on Thursday the diplomat Carlos Pareja Ríos as the country's new foreign minister, following the resignation of Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela Martínez in response to the Peruvian president's decision to paralyze the purchase of F16 fighter aircraft, despite the fact that the Air Force signed the sales agreement.
The diplomat replaces Hugo de Zela after his resignation with the suspension of the purchase of the F-16s, a controversy that also led to the departure of the Minister of Defense.
