Capcom Wants to Release Resident Evil Games Every Year with Even More Remakes
Masachika Kawata said remakes help fund new mainline entries and new IP, while Capcom keeps spin-offs off its priority list.
- Capcom aims to release a new Resident Evil title every year by alternating between mainline entries and remakes, according to producer Masachika Kawata. This strategy prioritizes core development over spinoff titles.
- Remakes are "just as important as the mainline titles," Kawata stated, providing financial resources for new intellectual properties like Pragmata. Producing annual mainline entries would be "a difficult task" without this cycle.
- Following 2026's Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Veronica will launch in 2027. If the annual cadence continues, rumored remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 1 could follow in 2028 and 2029.
- While spinoffs remain unlikely, Capcom is developing story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem and Resident Evil Veronica, arriving in late 2027 and 2028. Insider Dusk Golem noted these releases arrive "over a year" after the base games launch.
- Despite the aggressive schedule, Kawata clarified that Capcom does not guarantee a new game every single year. Production timelines beyond the rumored 2029 remakes remain unconfirmed as the team focuses on current projects.
