Ohio Libertarian Statewide Candidates Find Dead Body in River
Toledo Fire and Rescue recovered the body after the candidates called 911, and the coroner’s office will identify the person after an autopsy.
On Thursday, Ohio Libertarian candidate for governor Don Kissick and candidate for secretary of state Tom Pruss discovered a body in the Maumee River while filming a campaign video in downtown Toledo.
The discovery occurred after a teenager approached the candidates claiming he saw a body in the water; Kissick and Pruss followed the youth to the riverbank where they found the remains near rocks.
Pruss dialed 911 to report the situation, and both candidates remained at the scene until police and the teenager's parents arrived.
Toledo Fire and Rescue crews recovered the body from the river, with officials stating the coroner's office will release identity information only after an autopsy is completed.
While the investigation progresses, authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased individual, pending completion of autopsy results.
