Canada's Sarah Mitton Takes Bronze in Women's Shot Put at Diamond League Stop
Jessica Schilder won with a Diamond League record 21.09m, while Sarah Mitton’s 20.42m earned third in the season opener.
On Saturday, Canadian shot put star Sarah Mitton earned bronze in the women's shot put at the Diamond League stop in Shanghai, China, recording a top throw of 20.42m.
Reigning outdoor world champion Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands won the event with a Diamond League record of 21.09m, while American Chase Jackson secured silver with 20.46m.
Mitton's best effort of 20.42m came during her fifth attempt, placing her briefly in second; the Brooklyn, N.S., native finished 22 centimetres off her personal best.
The 29-year-old Mitton, who won indoor world titles in 2024 and 2025, faced Jackson, who recently dethroned her at the world championships in Torun, Poland.
Elsewhere at the meet, South Africa's Gift Leotlela won the men's 100m in 9.97 seconds, and pole vaulting legend Armand Duplantis of Sweden set a meet record by clearing 6.12m.
The Nova Scotian girl propelled her fifth of six tests at a distance of 20.42 meters on Saturday in China during the first stage of the Diamond League.
