California voters reject proposed ban on forced prison labor in any form
California voters have rejected a measure to amend the state Constitution to ban forced labor in any form, with about 55% voting against it.
The initiative aimed to address issues related to racism and discrimination against Black Californians as part of reparations proposals.
The current Constitution permits forced labor as punishment for crime, allowing incarcerated individuals to be paid less than $1 an hour for various work.
