California man, 25, dies after being bitten by rattlesnake while biking

On March 4, the Orange County Coroner's Office identified Julian Hernandez, 25, of Costa Mesa, and attributed his death to an animal bite in Irvine.
At the Quail Hill Trailhead near 39 Shady Canyon Drive, Irvine police said the bite occurred on Feb. 1 while Hernandez was mountain biking, and he sought help afterward.
Medical experts note antivenom must be given quickly, and Dr. Mona Sedgehian urged immediate ER care, saying 'It can be potentially fatal due to all of the complications'.
Hernandez's family pushed back and announced 'Our family has initiated an independent third-party autopsy' while the verified GoFundme page shared support from Julian's brother.
Authorities urge that hikers and bikers in Irvine stay on trails as the CDC reports about 7,000 venomous snake bites annually, with about five deaths, and recent warm weather has started rattlesnake season earlier this year.
