CAE to Sell Aviation Operations Software Business for US$500M

CAE said the sale will refocus its business on civil and defence operations and put proceeds toward simulation and training.

  • On Monday, CAE Inc. announced an agreement to sell its airline operations software business, Flightscape, to aviation technology company SITA for an enterprise value the company says is US$500 million.
  • Following a strategic review initiated five months ago, CAE CEO Matthew Bromberg seeks to sharpen the company's focus on its core civil and defence businesses through this transaction.
  • Flightscape helps airlines plan flights, manage crews and coordinate ground and in-flight services; the deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
  • Proceeds from the sale will support CAE's core simulation and training businesses, with Bromberg noting that SITA is "well positioned to support its customers, employees, and continued growth."
  • Broader cost-reduction efforts under Bromberg included an April job cut affecting 280 workers, a strategy this divestiture now complements as CAE reshapes around core operations.
